Our last day was in Rome from where we caught the plane back to Malta.
Happiness is when you come to Piazza Navona and you see the centre fountain exposed with all its beauty. I was so disappointed when I came here the other time to find it all covered because of restoration works.
The fountain is in the middle of Piazza Navona and there are two more at each end. This one, the most important by far, is the Fountain of the Four Rivers made in 1651 by the famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It depicts Gods of the four great rivers of the world - the Ganges (Asia), the Danube (Europe), the Rio de la Plata (America) and the Nile (Africa). The sculpture is topped by the Obelisk of Domitian, brought in pieces from the Circus of Maxentius. The sculptures are however probably copies and the originals are in one of the Rome museums .
With this picture I have come to the end of my series of shots from our Sorrento holiday. I hope you have enjoyed them as much as I have posted them. These were only a very few shots from all those I have taken during our trip.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.
