As from today I will start a series of shots from those I took when me and my family went for an extended week-end in Sicily at the end of August.
This is my son Jean-Pierre (JP for short) in relaxing mode on the Malta-Sicily catamaran Jean de la Valette waiting for it to start its 1hour 30 minutes trip to Pozzallo. At the time I took this shot it was 5.30a.m.
Jean de la Valette is a high-speed, all-weather passenger catamaran owned by a Maltese company: Virtu Ferries . Launched in April 2010, it is claimed to be the largest vessel of its kind operating in the Mediterranean. The vessel has been built to handle the increased cargo and passenger traffic between Malta and Italy.
Jean de la Valette is capable of shipping 156 cars, or 45 cars and 342m of truck lanes. The vessel can accommodate 800 passengers and 24 crew members. It is designed to operate at a speed of 38.5kts. In peak seasons it makes two trips there and back each day.
Virtu Ferries are currently waiting for the delivery of another even bigger and faster catamaran for its service between Malta and Sicily. It has other catamarans operating between ex-Yugoslavia and Italian ports.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.
It looks very luxurious and must be huge to fit so many vehicles on. Great shot of your son settling in for the journey. I like how you have also captured the woman who has dozed off in the background.
One of those times that should really only ever happen in the second half of the day, no wonder everyone looks so sleepy! Fab candid.
It looks very stylish and comfortable on the cat. but I think it's about time the carpet was replaced!
