As I walked back from San Gwann church to where the car with Christine in it was, I saw these petard launchers and thought they would make an interesting picture, especially for those who have never seen them close. I was amazed at the honeycombed maze of wires connecting the launchers. My guess is that the petards were let off as soon as the effigy of the Holy Virgin appeared at the door. Imagine the disappointment of those who saw it being reversed into the church.
Petards – as far as I can say – are not dangerous (to a certain extent), and so they are allowed to be let off close to buildings. The bigger fireworks have to be let off at a distance from built-up areas.
Thank you so much for your views, comments and fav's.
There is some serious firework power set up there! Interesting to see how many are going to be used. Too bad it was a let-down for the parade though. Good shot.
What a frightening sight!
Though I know petards only too well... after the countdown to the New Year in Italy, when they run out of fireworks, they let the "petardi" off one after another. Blooming racket!
