No wonder it is called Grand - it is one of the most beautiful natural ports harbour in the world. This is the view from Upper Barrakka. I was lucky that at the time a cruise liner was sailing into port. Facing my position on the opposite side is Fort St Angelo, Further out where the breakwater begins is Fort Ricasoli, to the right of Fort St Angelo (not seen here) is Fort St Michael and on my side of the breakwater (not seen here) is Fort St Elmo; below my position is The Saluting Battery which can take some 24 canon. The Knights of St John and Malta made sure no invader could enter the port. In fact, when Napoleon Bonaparte took Malta he stood with his fleet off the harbour and invaded from other parts of the island.

( Do you know that those cruise ships are 10 times more polluted than all cars combined.)
