I just love these fragile roses -they have such a short life but remind me of summers when I was little. Lots of them grew in hedgerows up the road and we picked the rose hips when they appeared later.
One year mum actually used them for Rose Hip Syrup but it was not as successful as 'Delrosa' now no longer available in the UK apparently.............probably because of all the sugar in it!!!
Rose Hip Syrup .I remember it well & it was supposed to be so good for you ! They used to sell it at the baby clinics! This is a pretty shot of these delicate roses .
thanks for the follow. Luckily I haveseveral sites near me where these still grow wild in the hedgerows, Such fragile beauties. And I too both drank and bought Rose Hip syrup. Apparently it was encouraged in teh war years when oranges were rare and vitamin c short.
They're so pretty- they remind me of flowers which grow in our coastal areas that we call Swamp Mallows or Marsh Roses. Interesting info about the syrup. Lovely, nostalgic picture.
