The People's Bible by sarah19

The People's Bible

After lunch today Laura and I went to 'The Acorn Centre' - lovely refurbished part of Inverurie West Parish Church.
Today the team from The People’s Bible were there with their amazing technology for people to add their handwritten verses of the Bible. I had volunteered to help for half and hour, it was a pleasure......and by the time we got home after visiting some friends there was an email to tell me my written verses were uploaded and available to view. We had to write two verses each, so click on 'next verse' to see the second one if you like!!

How amazing is our world that this kind of technology can be used to display real people's handwriting of such ancient words.

The People's Bible is a national tour which will produce a unique, hand-written edition of the Bible.
At venues across the country, people will be able to write a pair of verses to join the occasion and make their mark in history.
In the year of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, we aim to reconnect the British public with the Bible. And right now, to make this exciting project happen, we need your help. Volunteer now to help make The People’s Bible a reality!
Wow Sallie that is lovely & a great thing to be able to do !! Did it take you long to decide what you would write ! I love the little flower too !

I'm interested to see how it works - it's coming to our village in a few weeks and I'll be volunteering. Thanks for the links too.

@happypat @jmj It was lovely! Something very special about being part of history and with such a wonderful book. You don't actually get to choose which verses to do as they are selected from the data base (after which ever has been done last!) but somehow the bit about children asking questions about God seemed appropriate for someone who is a mother and a teacher! Anyway I made my mark and would encourage anyone to go along.
Part of it is filled in by touch screen technology and the writing is done using a 'connected' ballpoint pen (quite a fat one) and apparently there is a camera in the back of the paper you write on.....or something like that! Anyway it is amazing! I think God must smile at this project

What a fantastic idea, and you did get a wonderful verse. So many actions that the people of Israel were commanded to do had in mind a visual lesson for the children. Why do we do this? Because God did that. Or because we believe this... So yes, the perfect verse for a mom and teacher! I wonder if we could do something like this in the states. I will definitely check out the website!

Thank you all - I felt inspired when I first heard of the project quite recently on Sunday morning radio. Prince Charles had 'launched' the writing - completed Genesis 1 v1,2
It's nice to find that in sharing this so many people love the idea too.
I grew up with the Bible as it was an important book in the lives of all my grandparents and families, and my parents read it with us every day. They still read together every morning and every evening.
So for me this was a real opportunity to recognise my heritage and perhaps if I have grandchildren at some point I can share it with them.
So many people have found the verses they are given to write just 'so right for them'.........though I smiled as one of the ladies in yesterday said she would have liked to write about love but instead was writing about 'smiting the children' .....as she was a retired teacher she wasn't sure about how it reflected on her!!! Still, she wrote in the signature part that it was a privilege to take part, and it was indeed!

I think I may have already taken part, although it may just have been a local event. I certainly wrote out a verse of the Bible recently. It's wonderful to think that so many people are brought together with a project like this.
