It's Holiday Club at church this week and the children are having a ball! So are the adults!
Today's episode of Mission Rescue told the story of Moses and the burning bush. For our activity after the story we had laid out some dead twigs and some living cuttings (from my ornamental pear tree) on yellow paper. The children had made flames earlier in the morning using tissue paper and straws.
As the music played the bowl of flames was passed round and each person was encouraged to take a flame and think of something they were thankful for as they put their flame on the bush. They could take their shoes off as Moses had done if they wished - most of them did!
It was one of the most moving activities I have ever experienced with children in a church setting. I think they will remember it too!
What a great idea- being a Bible teacher I always love it when I see the Bible become a personal thing. It means so much more when it means something in your heart and memory. When I was in Israel I learned there actually is a bush that looks like it bursts into flames so God used His creation to catch Moses' attention. How nice that you all thought about the things God has given you and where He has touched your lives. Your bush is very pretty too!
That's a brilliantly creative idea - and wonderful that the children were so responsive to it. It sounds a good idea to use with adults too - sometimes we need to become 'like little children' and experience things more deeply.
Sounds like you all had a wonderful experience. We have our holiday Bible club coming up at the end of July. I'll pass your lovely idea on for the future.

Sometimes you just feel ideas are gifts too!
