road to Hoxa

A final holiday collage!
Last Saturday was very chilly to say the least. We had to hunt for indoor places to enjoy - not difficult! We drove from Stromness to Orphir - lovely views over Scapa Flow and interesting stops.
http://www.orkneyjar.com/history/or-chrch.htm and the Orkneyinga Saga Centre.
Then we drove down to St Margaret's Hope which was very gusty! but found a lovely tea shop and noticed signs to Hoxa Tapestry Gallery. It was a real inspiration and the roadside flowers (planted with care) and the sandy beach were a pleasure too. Didn't spend long on the beach, though someone had been building before we got there! Enjoy the links! http://www.hoxatapestrygallery.co.uk/index.php
How enterprising to plant the roadsides like this. Wouldn't our world be different if this happened in more places?

Is the gallery a garden? I always think in terms of art when I hear that word. Many years ago, when Lyndon Johnson was president here, his wife began a program where wildflowers are planted along our major interstate highways. From Spring to Fall the grass around them is left to grow so that the flowers won't be cut down as well. It's very lovely to drive along and see them in bloom. Much like your beautiful pictures here.
