Harris Tweed by sarah19

Harris Tweed

I love Harris Tweed!
When I was little many of my uncles were weavers and the sound of looms click clacking away was heard everywhere in the village where I went every summer. Aunties and cousins 'filled the bobbins' which went in the shuttles that whizzed back and fore between the threads and layers, to create the most amazing and colourful tweeds! It makes me smile just to think of it all and the people who were part of it.
On Saturday, waiting for the ferry, we went to visit the fantastic Harris Tweed Shop in Tarbert. http://www.isleofharristweedshop.co.uk/harris.html
The shop is awesome..............and across from the shop is a treasure house - full of tweeds and various accessories.
Enjoy today's photo and I will tell you more tomorrow!! :)

Oh did you notice me with that satisfied smile on my face as I browsed these awesome fabrics!!!
Gorgeous fabrics. What a rare childhood memory. and still smiling at it. Lovely

Lovely collage Sallie , I am no good at collages, is this a picnic one ? Harris tweed is really fashionable now too so it's lovely to see all this wonderful weaving being appreciated again !!

@june Thanks - they are very special memories indeed! @happypat I do the collages in Picasa 3 and they are very easy. Then send them to picnik for the framing bit and it is all quite effortless! I just enjoy choosing the colours at each stage to make the most of the photos I've taken!
These ones are really special as I smile so much remembering the experiences past and recent!

I think this is one of my favorites of your collages! The happy shopper shot is great!! And your memories of the weavers in your family is special too. I hadn't decided which picture I was going to post today, but seeing this sort of settled it. Make sure to check it out!! Great collage!!!

We went to Harris during our honeymoon in 1970 and I remember the Harris tweed then. We went to see it being made - fascinating, but I don't think I bought any!

Looks like an interesting and historical place. I did notice your big smile. That tells the story as well.
