big circle

This is the circle at the bottom of the garden.....far enough away from the family room patio doors to suffer a great deal of neglect over the years!
This year we have given it an overhaul.......indeed this week we have given it an overhaul. I agreed to the suggestion that we kill it all off and start again! The weeping beech is big and strong and there still are LOTS of bulbs underground which should have survived. We cleared all the debris, added a layer of rich compost (from 20 years of grass cuttings stowed away on the edge) and then a layer of wood chippings from the thinned trees in our front garden. And moved some of the large stones together.
All in all very satisfying and it will be interesting to record how things grow in the months ahead. Watch this space.
Nice to see it looking tidy anyway. You can just see the expert gardener behind the foliage and my fork standing where I left it to take the photo! This was before the wood chippings went on!
Three good things
1. Making the most of what we have......sunny days, compost, wood chips and time!
2. Clear green spaces.
3. Great sense of satisfaction as we got what we wanted finished before the rain came on!

I nearly missed Allan hiding there! Great satisfying job both of you! I feel very lazy slumped in my chair all weekend watching golf! Good to tackle jobs like this together!
