I'm finding ten to be a wonderful and difficult age to parent. Ten is helpful, kind, and empathetic. Ten can be responsible and resourceful. Ten is also dramatic and emotional and stubborn. Ten is on the cusp of so many changes and I remember being ten, and beginning to understand that this childhood that you thought was forever - because each day stretched into eternity - actually has an end date. Some moments I wanted to be all grown up and the the next I'd wish to be small enough still for my dad to carry me.
And the hardest part of parenting a ten year old? Realizing I am old enough to be parenting a ten year old!
Oh, and her next pair of glasses will have anti-glare coating! I had no idea how tough it is to take a portrait of someone in glasses and see those beautiful eyes.
