I usually only put the diced up apple cores out, I decided to put out a couple of cut up apple halves on Valentine's day for the squirrels that amuse us with their antics every day. This little one picked that entire apple half up and scurried away with his treasure through the trees, despite it being cut into chunks - it must have frozen back together out in the cold.
(In the interests of full disclosure, I had to set up this shot three days in a row to finally catch a squirrel in action. They are very quick! So, it's my flash of red, but it's from the future...)
