I thought these were the leaf buds, but these are actually the little flowers that eventually become the helicopter seeds. Either way, I never took the time to notice them before this spring!
I recently purchased some macro filters and since there was nothing else exciting to do on this gray rainy day, I tried a couple of handheld shots of these baby leaves. Considering the branches were swaying and I was breathing and the depth of field was so very teeny tiny, this may not have been the smartest way to try them out - this is one of only two images that turned out not completely blurry. Next time I will bring the tripod outside with me! This was with a +10 filter.
@samzee Actually - I was just looking into it more. Oops, they're the flowers that turn into the little helicopters, not the leaves. Which means, judging by how many are on our tree, there are going to be a LOT of helicopters this year...
@mpomm41740 Thank you! I really am loving the macro filters, and I just bought a really inexpensive set ($12 vivitar brand). I don't use them a lot because I tend to shoot my kids more than stationary objects, but I'm super impressed with how close I can get and what kind of detail I can see. It's definitely a lot better than shooting further away and cropping in.
