Liriodendron Leaf by sarahsthreads

Liriodendron Leaf

I get funny looks when I tell people I have a tulip tree in front of my house, but that really is the common name of this tree! The leaves are such an unusual and pretty shape, and every spring when the baby leaves start to emerge I have to ooh and aah over how adorable and tiny they are. This little leaf is about the size of a dime (it only looks big because of the +10 macro filter) but they grow very large - up to 10" wide - by early summer.

For that reason, it's not only our tulip tree, but it's also our umbrella tree, a great place to wait for the school bus on a rainy (but not lightning-y) day. :)
Beautiful, I love the soft background.
