I pulled the most babyish of the board books out and set them aside, but I'm not convinced we're entirely done with them. I really only want the one shelf of board books out, though, as we have so many fun picture books and he does really enjoy a story with a bit of substance now.
When the time comes, I have no idea how to part with these old friends. Many of them have lived in my house since eldest was a tiny newborn, some have been loved to death and repaired repeatedly, and all of them have been read and re-read countless times, with a snuggly warm body in my lap and a fuzzy head under my chin, chubby fingers tracing pictures and little voices chiming in with memorized words.
