I had an epiphany (sorry, couldn't resist) today - the Christmas tree is coming down this weekend, so if I'm going to try shaped bokeh, now's the time to do it!
I made a lens cover out of card stock and cut the tiniest heart I could manage in the middle - I wish I'd had a heart-shaped hole punch, I think it would have been a little better. And then the lights all by themselves were kind of boring, so I stuck one of our little angels who used to have a star or something in her hands in the foreground and then played with lighting her up with the flash from my cell phone until I was happy with the direction of light and shadows. Not too bad for a first try with a DIY setup?
