More than 375 students in our district (K-12) play string instruments, and once a year they get everyone together in the biggest gym on campus to perform a broad range of pieces, ending with all the students playing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star - the very first piece they learned on their instruments.
This year we celebrated 50 years of having a Suzuki program in the schools, so there were even some alumni who came back as special guest performers.
I was asked to accompany on piano for a couple of the groups, too, which was fun, but made it a bit harder to capture my 3rd grade cellist. I at least got a couple of shots!
She plays cello?? Wow! More power to her. She must be like my daughter was. She played clarinet from grade 3 to 7. Then she decided she didn't want to be one of ten or more clarinets in the school band..... She picked up the alto and bass clarinets and was the only one who played them..... She wanted to be one! Not one of many! She continued through school bands as "one"!
