All winter we've seen this lumpy thing hanging high up in the barren tree in our front yard. I suspected it was a hive of some sort, but really couldn't tell.
It came down in a recent wind storm, and yep, it's some kind of abandoned hive. I didn't realize they were basically layers that look like they're glued together with mud?
I feel a bit sad that it's on the ground and the residents have left it...but they were probably scary paper wasps instead of friendly honeybees anyway. Right?
