Starbucks on 6th Ave. I am looking out to the street and saw this gentleman working on his computer, and smoking in a no smoking area. Guess he didn't see the sign on the window! Loved how the coffee cup states YOU... right about the sign... The other sign above his head states that the cafe is providing heat to the patrons outside. He is too comfortable to care!
@blightygal Very strict in Seattle, the rules are "Smoking is prohibited near all doorways, windows and air intakes of any protected areas in order to ensure that smoke does not enter into the building. If smoke enters a protected space, it is the responsibility of the person(s) in control of the property to increase the distance where smoking is prohibited until smoke is no longer entering into the building." Since they had a heating unit controlled from the inside of the building. no smoking would be allowed.
Wow! Thats a bit nuts! lol. There's so much pollution and harm out there that cannot see - cars being a huge culprit, that I find being so strict a bit strange. Thanks for the info tho, different to the UK where smoking is banned just indoors, rightly so!
Brilliant shot as usual Constance! Would someone from the restaurant go out to tell the gentleman that he is trespassing? I think this is a great law! Very often when you are in a restaurant or other public space, you still get wafts of smoke which can be disturbing if you are having a meal for instance.
I usually call people on this, but I'm a nutty Californian. Now that I have a kid, I wish smoking was banned in all public places. I'm okay if you want to run this risk, but don't think you have the right to jeopardize the innocent around you. My dad was a smoker and ended up losing his battle with lung cancer and emphysema too early in life. He lived long enough to meet my son, but not long enough to take him fishing like he wanted to. Whenever I see someone smoking I think of he pain and toll they may likely have to endure later in life, but again, to each their own I guess.
@lintbrush@clarissajohal I agree with both of you. I am concerned about their health and they may not agree with the rules, but they are not negotiable! Just needed to capture this for a statement of our times...
You've become the Queen of Cityscapes! As you build on the number of public photos you've taken, I continue to be astounded by the things you see in your daily life! It makes your pictures so interesting to look at each day!
@dancrowe I guess it is the same principle as putting on the heat in a convertable with the top down...want the outdoors but don't want to be cold... mad at its best!
hmm BUSTED! There are very few places that enforce a no smoking rule here. In Japan we were amused to note that it is illegal to smoke while walking on the street but ok inside most bars and restaurants. Even worse places like starbucks and McDs had smoikers sections...usually downstairs right by the door so everyone had to walk through it anyway. Some of the McDs had a non smoking mezzanine floor....hello smoke rises!
