My Reward And My Reminder by sharonlc

My Reward And My Reminder

Last night I was discussing my tattoo with a friend. I had been thinking about making it my 365 Project photo for a while, so today seemed to be a good day to finally do it.

As I have previously mentioned, I am a Weight Watchers Lifetime Member. I lost 38 pounds between September 2008 and April 2009 with Weight Watchers Online. I didn't necessarily think that I'd make it all the way to goal weight, but after a few months the possibility of getting there suddenly seemed achievable. Every day I would stare at the Weight Watchers logo while logging my food and exercise totals on Weight Watchers Online, and at some point I wrapped my head around the concept that I would get a tattoo of the logo if I ever made it to goal weight. The day my scale hit goal was the day I went to the local tattoo parlor (a really lovely place - the owner sponsors local Little League teams and is a wonderful person) and had the logo put onto my wrist.

I call this my reward and my reminder. It's my reward for losing the weight, and a reminder not to pull a Kirstie Alley (i.e., not put all of the weight back on after going through the work of losing it). The tattoo is serving its purpose - it would be embarrassing to regain the weight with the Weight Watchers logo permanently etched onto my wrist, so staring at the logo gives me incentive to make better choices and not let all of my hard work go to waste.

I'm not advocating tattoos for everyone - it's a permanent decision, and it's not the right choice for a lot of people. But for me, this tattoo has a lot of meaning and a lot of benefit attached to it. My hard work is not going to go to waste, or to waist - I got myself into shape, and I'm going to stay that way!
Love this! I've lost 63 lbs with WW still have a bit to go to get to goal. I've taken it off slooooowly (I started in jan of 2010) but slow and steady works for me!

WTG Kerri - that's fabulous!

And slow and steady is definitely the way to go - that's how it comes off healthily and stay off. Keep up the great work!
