On Day 131 I photographed the homage to the space landing that didn't really happen in my township - http://365project.org/sharonlc/365/2011-05-11 Today, on the other hand, I saw an actual space capsule.
In 2005, Princeton resident Greg Olsen became the third private citizen to orbit the earth in the International Space Station. The Soyuz space capsule in which he returned to Earth is heading for permanent display to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in October, but between now and mid-October it will be on display at the Marketfair (even though it's known as the Princeton Marketfair, like so much else in this area it is really located in West Windsor despite its Princeton mailing address).
It's not every day that you can pop into the local mall and see an actual space relic. So I took my camera over to the Marketfair this morning and shot some photos of the Soyuz.
I found it hard to get a good shot of the capsule. It's basically just sitting there in the mall - it would be very easy to overlook if you weren't specifically seeking it out. I figured that I wanted to capture it for posterity, even if it wasn't the greatest shot ever taken.
