The kissing gate that leads from our Lane to the network of footpaths behind our home. The evening sun still had a hint of warmth when we passed through the gate on our outward journey. We walked down to the river and along the bank for a short way before turning back, and as we returned back up the field track to the gate there was a distinct nip in the air. In fact it felt distinctly autumnal, the feeling accentuated by woodsmoke drifting up from the chimneys of several houses along the Lane. It may be mid-spring, but woodburners are still is use each evening.
Lovely colours and nice to see some sunshine too! It hasn't been very warm so far this spring has it?! Our fire (which provides the central heating for the house) has been in most days so far this spring!
I had to find out what a kissing gate is having read about it often. Now I know and there are many here too! The gate kisses both sides of the enclosure. No romantic history. Your walk sounds just perfect including the woodsmoke!
