It's a bougainvillea. The tiny white bit is the actual flower, the coloured leaves are known as bracts. Wonderful details.

@shepherdmanswife my pleasure. I have 3 of these bushes growing in my garden. Two are red and the other is a very pale pink. They are incredibly hardy plants and can cope with adverse weather conditions.

I love bougainvillea and we had one in our garden. Unfortunately we had to take it out because it grew like wildfire and its roots took up all the pavers on the patio and the plant grew through the latticework and we had to replace it. Very hardy but can be very destructive too.

Wonderful capture of this beautiful plant....you got so much detail in it, and such a wonderful angle with the two of them nestled together. Interesting hearing you trying to identify it, whereas it is a VERY common plant around here.....they are hardy, as others have said, and they grow everywhere, and like wildfire....they can take over an entire wall in no time at all. As pretty as they are, they also have very sharp thorns, so you can get torn up trying to trim them! I have one in red and one in pink in my back yard.... I will try to post one someday.
