Pilings at Cove Beach, critique requested

I'm debating finally entering a local photography contest that I've watched for a couple years now. You can enter 3 photos for the single entry fee, so if I"m going to enter, I want to go ahead and enter 3. Besides the challenges we do on here, I've never entered a contest before, and, to be honest, I'm a bit intimidated. Maybe it's not time for this yet, but I'm at least considering it for the first time. I could use some help/advice/guidance/opinion/critique! Are these any good? Are they contest worthy? Is there something I can do to improve them? You get the drift....

You just have to know that after the awesome reception I received from many of you on this one, it's one that I'm considering! They have a b&w category, and I thought this would go well in there.

Here is the link to this photo festival: https://www.wardmuseum.org/SpecialEvents/ArtinNaturePhotoFestival/WinnersList/tabid/720/Default.aspx

The others that I'm considering are here, and yes, you've seen them before! But I'd love it if you would look at them thru different eyes!

I wonder if you have more space top and bottom? It's a really nice shot but could use a bit more space top so it doesn't feel so crowded and bottom so the foreground board doesn't get chopped off

I love this shot, but I agree with Jane and it would look better if you gave it more space at the top and the bottom of the photo. Maybe portrait orientation would suit this one better rather than landscape. If you haven't got any more room to add to the picture you could clone the space at the top and the sand at the bottom into a larger shot.

@onewing I'm thinking of actually heading back out to Cove Beach this evening and retaking the shot, maybe use my short lens so I can get more space around it. The challenge will be to recreate the effect I used in Silver Efex! :-)
