@farmreporter On this one, I did bump up the exposure in post processing a bit, but was afraid to go too high and blow out the highlights. Should have gone a bit higher?
@shesnapped It never hurts to try - or you can make a copy of the original to work on in case you goof.
What about playing with just the shadows to lighten them up a bit?
But - I'm a real newbie when it comes to editing so what do I know except that I found the photo a bit dark.
Personally, I'd reduce the saturation of the greens in the background. And the yellows too, but you might need to mask out the effect on the bird. And make the adjustment local. Try to do them in Photoshop and not with an adjustment brush in Lightrrom/Camera Raw, so much more flexibility.
@shesnapped Ashley - compare the eyes of the two babies. See how open and clear the eyes of this baby is compared to the squinty eye of the previous baby that you thought you had poor focus on?
Also, this baby has dry eyes where the other one appeared to have wet below his eye as if it were weepy.
This one has a healthy eye - and appears to be a healthier chick as well.
@farmreporter Wendy, no kidding! I definitely see what you're saying about comparing their two eyes. I really thought it was simply my skills! Thank you for sticking in there and making me see it!
@frankhymus Frank, I agree with the saturation issues, but wasn't sure how to approach it. Masking out the effect on the bird will not be a problem, but I'll need to figure out how to do the desaturation itself in PS. I know how to do it in LR, but not in PS. Learning it in PS will be good because I know you're right about the flexibility of PS.
@shesnapped The Adjustment Layer "Hue/Saturation." And you can use the hand pointer tool up the top to select the tones you want to desaturate (or saturation) - click on the image.
I know it's tough to get into the daily routine habit - don't knock yourself out about it.
Just keep trying!
And remember - it's not about posting 365 masterpieces, because that would take just too much time to edit on a daily basis.
But to try to get into the habit of taking a pic on a daily basis, and posting it, no matter if you have time to edit it. That is, if that is your goal.
Or, take only the occasional picture and make it a masterpiece, if that is your goal.
But, I would sure hate to see a lady of your talent not do photography. Looking forward to following your journey in 365.
All the best, Wendy
@farmreporter Thanks for the encouragement Wendy! Hubby admitted to hospital on Thursday and had gall bladder surgery on Friday. Came home on Saturday. I took photos on both Thursday and Saturday, just haven't put them up yet. But they're coming! They really are! AND I worked on a photo on Friday that has a story behind it. I've just not had time to get them up yet....
@shesnapped Oh - so glad you are still doing it. Didn't realize you had other things happening and thought I had lost you!
Give my best to your hubby - hope he gets better fast.
Though is the exposure a bit dark?
BTW - do you mind me adding my thoughts?
