Caught this guy over Labor Day weekend at Prime Hook, same time I was catching the black skimmers. I was so intent on catching them that I overlooked the egrets. How could you overlook this guy???
As I've pursued the egrets over the past couple years, I've always tried to capture them fully in flight and haven't been real pleased with the aesthetics of the photo. Recently I've noticed that their wings are so graceful and curvy when they first take off, like this shot.
On a side note, I went back to Prime Hook two weekends ago in pursuit of the perfect black skimmer shot (haha!) and found that it's partially dried up as they rebuild the bridge and dam up the water on one side. Quite the disappointment!
