Wet Sleddale Dam by shirleybankfarm

Wet Sleddale Dam

This dam is just outside Shap at the bottom of the Shap fells. Water is pumped into the Haweswater dam mainly through tunnels and was built to supply Manchester with water. During periods of high rainfall or when the snow from the hill tops is melting water can often be seen running over the dam front as it is in this shot.
I love the mist over the hills. don't know too much about the functioning of the dam, so your narrative was quite interesting.

Looks like there's no problem with a water supply. Lovely landscape.

Nice capture Shirley. We could use some of that water here in north Queensland with 80% of Queensland drought declared.

@bruni @snowy @tonydebont @peterlgrave @kimdavis @lavenderhouse @terryliv @bkbinthecity Thanks all for your comments. It is a very popular area for walkers during the summer months. Peter I would gladly send you some rain if it were possible.
