Unwelcomed Visitor

The Blue Jays have found the new feeder. While we aren't too excited about it since they are big bullies, they have surprisingly, behaved themselves so far. Its breast feathers are puffed up because it was preening itself.
I didn't know that about blue jays. Have never seen one in the flesh. Beautiful photo of the softness of its feathers

@casablanca - Oh yes, they make lots of noise scaring smaller birds away from the feeder plus when they fly into the feeder they land with a thud. They will either pick the shells off and eat the seed or they eat everything, shell and all.
They and our American Robin are enemies. They will attack one another's unattended nests and crack the eggs open with their bills.

This one's feathers are a bit ruffled. I think mockingbirds are bigger bullies than the jays.

Fantastic capture!

They are good looking but yes, kind of jerks. Still they don't like my long cylinder feeder because they are too big to comfortably sit on the perches and get the seeds out of the holes, so the smaller birds pretty much have that one to themselves.

Great details and textures. We have Jays in the UK but they are few and far between locally to me and they are quite different from yours.

@dulciknit - It's the same story with our "Robin's" and your Robins. I put our Robins in quotes because what they call the American Robins are not truly Robins. They are are in the Thrush family. They called them Robins because of their orange breasts. I'd take the European Robin any day.
