I sent for a 10 stop neutral density filter for my newer lens thinking I could use it to photograph the eclipse. I didn't research it enough and it wasn't until later that I learned that it wouldn't be enough to protect the sensor. So I made a primative pinhole viewer and used it to photograph the stages and make the above composite. I needed to do some photoshopping to give it the orange color and sharpen up the edges of the sun.
The filter did arrive today but not until after the eclipse was long over.
Three good thing:
1. I have a neutral density filter for future long exposure photographs.
2. I wasn't tempted to try and use the filter risking damage to my sensor.
3. I didn't damage my retinas.
This is awesome job my friend!!!!! Glad that you camera and you is ok! Thank you that you are sharing with us! At Ukraine it was night, and we don't can to see it
@Weezilou - I have a Facebook account and the day before the eclipse someone posted that if you didn't have eclipse glasses that you could use your cellphone to view it safely by putting it in selfie mode, turn your back to the sun, point your phone over your shoulder and watch on the screen. Sure and destroy your cellphone's camera!
I read a short article yesterday about a man who when he was a teenager decided to squint one of his eyes and peek at the eclipse. He claims that he looked for only a few seconds but he did permanent damage to his retina. It wasn't until a little while later that he noticed that spot he was seeing wasn't going away. I hope that you escaped damage to your sensor!
@creativeaddict - There is a way to take multiple exposures, but I just used PhotoShop to copy each shot and apply the different stages to one photograph.
