Feeling better today so I got my camera out. Monday I had surgery and didn't get to go home until Wednesday. One day more than I was told.
Our youngest daughter and granddaughter came over for a visit when I noticed it was snowing those really big snowflakes which I tried to capture.
What a gorgeous bird...gorgeous day...gorgeous photo, Skip! So sorry to hear you had to spend any time in the hospital! I'm sure it made you feel better to have the family drop by to see you! Hope you're 100% good-to-go soon!
And you did capture them well, as well as the beautiful bird. I'm sorry to hear you've been in the hospital having surgery but I hope you are recovering quickly and completely!
@Weezilou@jyokota - Thank you for your kind comments! I am definitely better off than before. There is some follow up with a couple of doctors. I guess I scared a few nurses when I blacked out. I was the center of attention when they revived me. I am thankful that it happened in the hospital and before my wife got there.
@skipt07 oh wow! Laughable now, but I blacked out a few months ago. I woke to Ken saying, "OMG, Are you OK!?" I replied yes, why? Him: "You're on the floor!" me..."Oh...whoops!" He whisked me off to the hospital where they found I had low potassium... Thank heaven for our capable hospital staff! You take care of yourself!
@skipt07 -- In the US, they try to do so many surgeries as "out patient" to reduce cost, and surgeries are done early in the morning, then you are in the recovery area for up to 23 hours, and sent home. The accompanying person (me) gets stuck with post-surgical support in ways for which we have not been trained! Twice, we have had to take my husband back to the emergency room after surgeries when he was sent home so soon. Glad they took better care of you!
@jyokota I didn't go into detail, but it was after "a morning surgery" that I had my blackout late in the day! Ken called the dr who said to take me to emergency where we stayed until about 2 in the morning getting me back on my feet, as it were.... A most insightful comment on your part!
@Weezilou -- Sigh. My mother immigrated to the USA at age 80, and her biggest fear was getting sick and ending up in a hospital because in Japan, you stay until you are well -- even weeks.
@Weezilou - I am very glad to hear that you are okay after you blacked out and that it was low potassium that caused it. The good thing for me was that I had safety moved to the chair beside my bed. Then I started to get really warm and then my vision started to go black from the sides of my eyes towards the center. The night shift nurse was updating the day shift nurse right in front of me when it happened. They saw my head go down and tried reviving me by talking and shaking me. It took a shot of atropine to bring me back around. They made me get back into bed. And so my stay was extended to run tests.
@jyokota - I'm not sure if the number of surgeries done as outpatient is to save money or if it is because of insurance companies regulations? Or maybe a combination of both?
I have heard stories of people being sent home after so many days in the hospital because insurance companies will not pay beyond so many days. Many times these people who are discharged end up being re-admitted because of downturns in their conditions.
@365karly1 - I am at home. I was discharged on Wednesday. My strength is returning slowly. General anesthesia sure knocks the stuffing out of you! I have a follow up with the surgeon tomorrow.
Glad to read you are home and wishing you a quick and smooth recovery! I'm impressed with your photographic work on top these circumstances - it's great and even greater that you are posting despite how you are feeling!
@taffy - That is very kind of you to say Taffy. I've been limited as I wasn't allowed to lift any more than 10 lbs. I may have been pushing it with my longest lens and camera body.
I just got upgraded to 25 lbs today and that lasts for a month. It doesn't take much to make my tail drag. I can try to do some commenting as long as I don't fall asleep.
Awesome capture of this beautiful Cardinal with the snow falling! Cardinals are one of my favorite birds...I could easily take photos of them every day. Fav! :-)
