On May 31, 1985 five tornadoes devastated the tri-county area and as many as 7 hit the northeast. The one that hit closest to our area was rated an F4. There were some reports that it could have possibly been an F5. This year a possible tornado touched down in the same vicinity as 1985. Being away I am not certain what the NWS is reporting. This is not my photo but one posted on Facebook.
I remember the 1985 tornado outbreak in central PA. My aunts' house had the roof ripped off and several classmates lost their homes.
I did not hear of any touching down in the area yesterday. Straightline winds can be just as dangerous. I hope everyone is okay.
@emt626mf - I live in NWPA right on the Ohio line. The city of Wheatland was almost wiped off the map in '85. I had a personal run in with straight line winds some years later. I was working in the county seat when they hit. As I tried to drive to get out of town away from trees and power lines all I could see was blurry and blue flashes of light as the power lines touched or were being shorted out from flying debris. At first it was thought a tornado passed but it was determined it was straight line winds.
