I don't know if this is a young one or not. She landed on the trunk of our Rose of Sharon bush and sat there for the longest time. Normally they are continually on the move. They'll grab a seed and take it to the bush and place it in one of the crotches of the branches where they can peck at it to open it. I don't think I have seen one stay in place more than a few seconds. This one sat for minutes while other birds continued to eat seeds.
Excellent capture. We had some visiting this winter, putting seeds under the bark, did not know it was to crack the seeds open.. I really need a bigger glass/lens to take close ups of them. Mine just doesn't have the reach.
