Thanks for putting yesterday's "South Rim Sunrise" on PP. A large group of astronomers set up their telescopes at the South Rim while we were there and invited us to watch the stars with them. We arrived early and listened to a park ranger give a fascinating talk about the canyon. After sunset, the night sky had more stars in it than darkness. We saw the Milky Way, the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn and other incredible sights in our solar system. An interesting fact we learned: if you live in a large metropolitan area, you will see more stars in one evening at the Grand Canyon than you have seen in your entire life.
