Sorry this isn't the best picture but after the teaser I felt I had to share the majesty that is The Cupcake Hat with y'all. My little brother kindly modeled it for you even though I have been threatened with death if this winds up on the internet. Oops. That's what he gets for wearing the hat sideways so the seam on the paper is all too visible here.
That's supposed to be a giant cupcake in the center but my crafting skills were somewhat lacking. The fake cupcakes around the edge are made from sponges, styrofoam, and with spackle as the frosting. My hat tied for first place at the Kentucky Derby party I attended so I guess that hard work paid off.
I think it looks fabulous! You did great on it and I am happy your hat was a hit at the party. Well deserved! And the top looks a little Harry Potter-ish to me :D
@killerjackalope Thank you! He's probably more ashamed of the pretty little bow in the back of the hat. Not very manly. @naladka Thanks! A friend made the same comment about the Harry Potterishness of it and suggested I turn it into a sorting hat to wear to the Harry Potter theme park in the fall. @hjbenson Thank you! I did have to be sure to turn my head slowly and not make any sudden movements while wearing it, although the fake cupcakes were surprisingly light. @omabluebird Thanks! I hope it lived up to your expectations. :) @peterauliciems I know it takes a while to get used to my weirdness so I'm glad you're getting the hang of how my mind works. @lislee75 Thanks! I was thrilled even though the prize wasn't something I actually wanted.
