Day 051, Year 2 - Freelensing Flowers

I went to the supermarket on the morning of this photo and had a browse of one of the photographer monthly magazines, and read an article about freelensing. I had seen of the concept before in the field of DSLR video where you try and create lights leaks by shooting with a lens that is held in front of the bayonet mount allowing light into the sensor, but without actually mounting the lens onto the camera.

In photography it seems to be termed as freelensing which I had never heard about, but what seems to happen is the same as when you use a tilt-shift lens. You can hold the lens on front of the camera and compose your shot to create a particular focal-point in the frame.

I had a go with an old Pentax 28mm lens, but I am convinced that my crop-sensor 7D means the effect isn't quite as good as if you use full-frame sensor.

The shot above was the nicest of the lot and really doesn't appear any different to a shot with a wide-open aperture. More practise needed I think! :)
I like it. You have it all in here, DOF and lighting. The open lilys look sharp too.
Must say I have never heard of freelensing.... thanks for sharing!
