Here is the subject of my interest when Louise @Weezilou photographed me taking this photograph here: http://365project.org/Weezilou/so-many-choices Oddly, in her picture it looks like the chest is in the shadows, but here the light seems to be quite plentiful. Checking the EXIF I see I bumped the ISO up to 360 and opened up the aperture to 4.5. With a shutter speed of 1/125, I guess that would lighten things up. Huh, I usually have the ISO set at 100, but it seems it went on auto. The learning never stops.
Wonderful shot, Ron. Really great colour and detail. I have a similar one to it. I always wonder who originally owned it and what was inside! You look pretty pro taking that shot too, by the way :)
The colors in your photo are so rich! You got marvelous detail and I always love "text", so the old milk can & its patina look great to me! I seldom jostle the ISO, but I see it has its advantages! Beautifully captured, Ron, and it's nice to have the pairing...
Great shot Ron, I like the strong lighting brings out all the lovely detail and tones on the chest, also like the way you have positioned it in the frame:)
I'm not suppose to be at my computer right now but I snuck on to see if you'd posted this pic yet. Ooo! I like! The comp is excellent with the greenery framing much of the edges and the trunk filling up most of the space. That extra can adds a nice touch as well. Parking yourself in the middle of the road was worth it!! Fav!
Me again. I just happened by Louise's albums again and noted that in the picture of you taking a picture of this trunk there was no sunlight on the box. Thinking that there was lots of light in your image, I had to come have a second look. Obviously this is not the pic you took while your picture was being taken. (Real detective, aren't I.)
@lyndemc A regular Columbo, I'd say. However, sorry to say it is, in fact, the same time as Louise's shot. I noticed the same thing (the fact that the chest appears to be in the shadows) and even mention that in my text on the photo. The only thing I can figure is that my exposure, notice that the aperture is pretty wide at f4.5 and a relatively slow shutter speed, 1/125, compensated for the apparent lack of light. Notice the blown out area behind the trunk and the milk can. Now THAT's where the sunlight is! This was a real eye opener for me with regard to how the eye perceives light and how the camera does it differently. And the adjustments and latitude we as photographers have. Same time for both - honest!
@marmaladeskyes@aglennc That mystique is what attracted my interest when I thought about capturing the image. I hope it's really as old as it looks. Thanks for the comments.
@pcoulson@gilbertwood Thanks Peter, thank Denise. Once again I must credit Lightroom with magically bringing out some of the details that this photographer failed to grab when recording the image. Makes one appreciate the abilities of some of the old masters who succeeded without such post processing tools.
@lyndemc As i indicated elsewhere, I'm tickled that you risked trouble and boldly jumped on the computer in anticipation of seeing this photo. Hope you were not disappointed! Many thanks for the fav, too!
