this board game, as we all know, has been around for as long as we can remember. i never learned how to play monopoly until my grandsons had wanted to play them. the young one learned how to count and the older one learned how to count money through the traditional monopoly game.
three years ago a new monopoly canada was released and one of its features was the 'electronic banking' where players of up to six each have a 'credit card'. the amounts allotted to each player start in the thousands. one of the new 'charms' was a likeness of a flip cellphone. you'd think that learning this game quite late in life when i am more used to the changing technologies would make me welcome those changes and would easily adjust to the newness of the game. i prefer to play this game in its original version. there is some kind of excitement that is inherent in it which the new version lacks. it just is not the same.
I loved that game as a child. What a great composition of this! I don't think that I'd like the new version . . still like to use my "money" the old-fashioned way! Why do they have to always change everything.
wow -- I have not seen the new version! My oldest daughter and I played it when she was young -- same things: counting, etc... It was fun. I think I will stick to the old version....! (Neat shot!)
@lissuhllama - they have all kinds of versions. i heard, but have not seen, an asian version. thank you, lissa.
@karenann - i've only heard of this game as a child. in high school i've seen them at the homes of my classmates, those whose parents were well off. but us from the other side of the tracks, we kick cans and play 'it' in the moonlight, or i go on rooftops and use my sling shots on the kids who called me a 'snob'. tee-hee!
@lesip - technology's taking the fun out of a lot of things, especially for people like me who are 'old'. thank you, leslie.
@jannkc - well, when i learned how to play this, i always insist i am the banker, that way nobody can cheat anyone. ;-] thank you, jann.
@cscecil - thank you, CS. let us stick to the old version. although i much prefer to play good old scrabble.
@sbb1980 - every time? well, that could be a bummer, especially when you land on those nasty high priced rentals and you're down to just a few dollars. thank you, sara.
@steeler - yes, i've seen some people do that during their holidays and i always wondered what was the novelty of monopoly. it is a very interesting game, though. of course now, i know. thank you, howard.
I think that's because plastic money is not "real"! There are not too many things that become better or improve when they're updated. They all lose something in the "translation" I think. Fun shot.
