when grandmere summerfield came home, little wahoo was walking around the living room with a tiara on her head.
"oh, my!" said grandmere. "aren't we looking mighty royal today?"
"grandmere," little wahoo said, "i want to be a princess."
grandmere was very amused and she smiled as she sat down beside little wahoo and explained to her that to be a princess either you have to have been born a princess or marry a prince.
"but i don't want to get married just to become a princess," said little wahoo. "can't i just be one? i thought if you have a crown or tiara, you're already a princess. did you not want to be a princess when you were little?"
grandmere chuckled and almost bursted out the laugh she'd been suppressing. "no, dear, i never wanted to be a princess."
"grandmere, i really want to be a princess, even for a day," said little wahoo.
"okay, wahoo," said grandmere. "well then we'll make you a princess." and grandmere summerfield sat little wahoo on a piece of shiny plastic and put her right in the centre. "that would be your throne until we can get you real one."
little wahoo liked her temporary throne. and she sat there with a serious expression on her face for that was what she had earlier heard royalty does. but grandmere could no longer control her amusement and laughed out loud. little wahoo joined her even though she didn't know what was so funny.
"oh, my god," said grandmere, "i've never seen a cow with a tiara before. you look so...so....funny!"
grandmere took a hand mirror and showed little wahoo a reflection of herself with a tiara on her head. little wahoo smiled and started to laugh, too, for even she found it funny that a cow would want to be a princess and wear a tiara.

is it obvious i'm running out of steam on this challenge? six days to go.
Love the tiara .. the throne! But wahoo captures my heart! This is going to be a children's book, right? You should have it done in six more days, girl. And then live off of wahoo's royalties (pardon the pun!) Great photo, summerfield. I don't think that I could ever do a ssc! :)
You can do it!! And Wahoo will help!! This is so cute. I almost wish I was visiting Leigh this weekend so we could read about Little Wahoo together. Isaac is just a bit too young yet! Keep up the good work- I know you can finish well!
@gbert204955 - thank you, gilbert. much appreciated.
@karenann - while i would like to develop this into a book, the concept though had been done, quite successfully, most recently the "milktoof" blog and the resulting book (see mymilktoof.com). i have some ideas which i would throw around at the writer's retreat i will be attending in april or june. let's say, we'll keep our options open. thank you, karenann, for your very kind support and encouragement. they mean a lot to me.
@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. i think i will let our little friend here get into character until the end of the treasure hunt. it is easier when there's a character involved, and i do get to 'practice' writing at the same time (something different from what i normally write). my niece had suggested that i create a blog page for this little character but i don't know how i could sustain this for a long time. i'm thinking more like a third album in here and if i really am able to get it going then a dedicated blogpage or website maybe in order. i've been wanting to create my own website for my writing anyway, so perhaps it could be one of the pages for the website. thank you for your kind support and encouragement. they really mean a lot to me, ann.
@summerfield They all sound like excellent ideas Vikki- and I agree about long term sustainability. After a while you get tired and so do the readers. I think it's better when you keep them wanting more. That will always keep Little Wahoo fresh and even keep her contemporary with new readers.
