fiddleheads

i found these three amigos on a side road garden during my walkabout this afternoon. if you can believe it, i've eaten a lot of this when partner and i drove around the eastern provinces of canada in 1998, and only now did i find out they are the shoots of ferns. thanks, 365!

trivia: fiddlehead is the provincial plant of new brunswick, a province in eastern canada.

I've taken a few of these photos too lately ... none as beautiful as this. Wonderful, girlfriend!! Love your pov and the colors. Did you use the new picmonkey for processing or is this sooc?

@karenann - i used ipiccy for the mirror framing and the name tag, but otherwise sooc. i hardly go to picmonkey, they don't have the mirror frame effect. looking at my shots today, i realize i posted a different photo than what i intended but i didn't want to fiddle (no pun intended) with the posts anymore. thank you, karenann.

Beautiful capture. Love the colors and lighting. Also like the effect of the framing. Really helps emphasize the subject.

I love the ferns when they are curled like this, never eaten them though are all ferns edible or just some and did someone discover this after the meal of magic mushrooms.

@losthorizon - thank you, beau. i love that mirror frame effect. i was glad that ipiccy.com now has the same feature.

@steeler - thank you, howard. i just now learned, too, that some fiddleheads are poisonous! ugh! now, the mushrooms i only eat when i buy them from the stores here. i won't even eat the canned ones when i was in manila.

great shot. i know that many people pick and eat the fiddleheads so long as they are new; once they get older they are not good. i don't know if all ferns are edible or not, Howard - probably not. i know we eat a lot of our flowers and they spice up our salads, taste peppery.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. the first time i ate a salad of pansies i didn't know what to make of my hostess. i knew that some flowers can be eaten, but to actually be served with them, oy! when we went to new brunswick and i tasted the fiddleheads, i liked the taste but if i had known that they were actually fern buds, i probably wouldn't have eaten them. being served in the restaurant though would seem safe. maybe.

@cscecil - thank you, CS. glas you like it.
