the way they were

these are the parents of a very dear friend, the friend who was the recipient of the cross-stitch projects i posted in january (see: http://365project.org/summerfield/365-again/2012-01-06 ).

these are the only existing pictures of the couple when they were young, taken off their old passports when they came to canada from italy more than 40 years ago. they will be celebrating their anniversary in the summer and my friend would like to have these photos enlarged (at least an 8x10) and framed so she could give it to them.

we had asked the few shops here that process photos and all of them no longer offer the service of restoring old photographs. i could do it for her using my paint program, but my problem is her dad's photograph. the original has a 'matte' finish and as you can see the matte finish shows during the scanning process. i was hoping that one of you can help me 'remove' those lines, if at all possible. i don't have photoshop and the minimum processing i do with my posts i do in ipiccy or picmonkey.

thought i'd try to find help here first before i go begging in the discussion board. :-)
@roth - help!

I hope that you get the help that you need, summerfield. Have you tried family run camera stores ... I think that some of them still have people who do restoration or can recommend somebody. Also ask photography people at camera studios, colleges ... they might know someone. I do know that the ones who do this are "pricey!" These are wonderful photos. Such young innocence.

@karenann - i've combed all those shops and one guy said that there's no more business for this type of service because almost everybody has photoshop or programs can be downloaded from the internet mostly for free. but i told them that not everybody is capable of processing as this is a specialized job. if i don't hear from sue @roth by the weekend, i will probably post this on the discussion board. or else, i will have to make do with this. thank you, karenann. aren't they lovely? the dad has some resemblance to the young marlon brando and the mom to glenn close. that's why my friend is so beautiful.

Yes, indeed, I do see the resemblances. Good luck, summerfield. It's worth the effort.
