i brought the new camera with me to work with the goal of walking down to the boardwalk and practice with it, as so far, i've only used it inside the apartment. it was just a tad uncomfortable with the heat i think we hit 25 degrees with a wonderful light breeze.
glancing at the top of the knoll, i saw the masts of two tall ships. i quickened my pace and went past two tents selling gyros and hotdogs. i thought it was quite weird. as i stepped on the boardwalk, my concetration was on the tall ships. then i notice something wasn't quite right nor was it wrong either. then it clicked on me, a lot of the people were in period costumes, particularly nineteen hundreds. i asked one bearded man what was going on, and he replied in a very clipped british accent something that i knew was english but i quite couldn't understand. when i asked him to repeat he pointed to a sign that said 'the wharf, 1812'. hahaha! for a while i got a bit disoriented as by this time the sun was so bright and i was getting uncomfortably warm. i looked around and i thought i had stepped into a time warp. it was like old stuff everywhere.
i was taking shots of this lady in white, trying to be discreet, when she saw me and waved and faced me. then it occured to me it was a reenactment of the days preceding the war between the americans and upper canada. it was quite magical, although inside i was a bit happy when i saw a few people wearing shorts and a few had their cameras.
so, although i'd be glad travelling back into time, the time before me, it was for sure a bit disconcerting stepping into something like this. really.
thank you for your views and comments; know that they are much appreciated.
So you got caught in a little "time warp" there ... and ended up with a great photo!! Love your dof ... beautiful capture! Great new camera. Love that 3100 ... still have mine and will keep it. Enjoy. :)
@karenann - thank you, karenann. going back downtown to see this again and i'll use the other lens that came with the camera. for me it's like the 1980's again when i was using the 35mm minolta, only i can look at the results right away with this one. i have 15 days to see how this goes. i'd have loved the canon rebel but this camera feels so much lighter than any i tried.
@alia_801 - thank you, alia. my niece was quite impressed that i had the camera and the lens on manual settings. turns out i could take a shot with an extended dof if i switch the lens on to autofocus. and there i was yesterday thinking the camera is crap. hehehe!
