this pearl bracelet is quite difficult to wear. i've lost and replaced one of the pearl beads. i wear this mainly during the summer when i wear my white outfits. and i've just hinted to partner that i still don't have a pearl ring.
i love pearls, but when i was young, my mother did not want us to wear pearls, whether earring, necklace, or ring or bracelet, real or fake. superstition is the root of it all. pearls symbolize tears and are believed to bring sadness; a single woman who wears pearls will never marry; pearls should not be incorporated on engagement rings or wedding rings lest they bring 'tears' to the marriage.
but it was also believed that pearls have aphrodisiac properties; placing a pearl underneath a pillow will help a childless couple to conceive (yeah, right!); the wearing of pearls cure madness, and is beneficial in the treatment of jaundice, snake bites and insect bites (hmmmm...i'll wear pearl next time i go to the zoo and feel like pearl power to face the damn snakes!). pearls are also believed to cure depression in women.
there you go, gents, get your women some kick-ass pearls. :-)
thank you, folks, for your views and comments; know that i appreciate them a lot.
This is a beautiful bracelet. I've never seen one like this design. Much better than a regular tennis bracelet. From the powers of pearls, I think I must start wearing my pearls every day..if it will cure madness. :-)
Nice shot Vikki! I've always liked pearls but have never had the real thing. Not to worry though, I don't wear much jewelry! Love how your bracelets are looking on the calendar view.
Beautiful bracelet; since my 25th anniversary I have just started getting into pearls; I have heard all the superstitions too but what doesn't kill us makes us stonger right? But maybe next time I wear mine I will throw some salt over my left shoulder........................ ;0)
Very pretty, there is something very elegant about pearls too. Gold can be worm for a casual look but pearls will always dress it up. I think I will get some pearls to cure my madness! ; \
