often, our first role models outside of our families are our teachers. they taught and/or refined what our parents have taught us, and gave us new knowledge as well. i was blessed and am always thankful that for the most part, i had the best teachers during my formative years.
mr. nograles was my physics adviser in high school and he and his late wife, who was also my biology teacher, were no non-sense teachers. marilyn was fresh out of college when she first taught us literature in third year high school. despite her young age at the time, her knowledge of the classics was beyond compare. the boys were in awe of her because she was so beautiful, i was in awe of her because she explained 'beowulf' and guy de maupassant and shakespeare so articulately. arnie was my writing teacher and mentor. he was an actor and writer.
they were very strict, especially when students disrupt the class; they were thorough with their lessons, very fair with their gradings, and really inspired and encouraged their students to do better. i learned more from very strict teachers. they were a few of the people whose teaching methods forced me to apply myself and think outside the box.
the left and middle photos were taken by me during our reunion in 2008. arnie's photo was taken a few months before he was diagnosed with lung cancer that eventually killed him in 2005; it's a caputre of the photo from the book that contained tributes for him during the 2005 toronto's totally unknown writers festival.
thank you for your views and comments; they are much appreciated. i shall catch up on yours this weekend, when we come back from london to visit little ivy jean and little jack.
I love this. We only had a camera or two all during my childhood. It wasn't until I was i high school I even really used a camera. I have a few pictues that I need to scan. Hmmm .... an ongoing project of mine. ;-)
wonderful pictures of some wonderful people who touched your life! I agree about their importance. I have so much to be grateful for in some wonderful teachers I had!
