star anise

a friend gave me a bunch of spices used in indian cooking; i told her i was planning to make curried fish stew and she volunteered to give me some of her spices.

when i still ate meat a long time ago in the old country, i got into indian cuisine when a friend brought me to a fine dining indian restaurant. i fell in love with the food and the next day set about buying a book on spices and indian cooking and went to buy all the spices needed for an authentic chicken curry.

recently, after my friend gave me the spices, partner got crazy buying tilapia fish that was on sale. i like tilapia but i don't like the strong smell it emits during cooking and my apartment would smell fishy for days no matter how many gallons or drums of vinegar i boil. so i put the tilapia fillets on a thick foil, sprinkled it with a good amount of curry powder and some of the spices and cut onions. turns out partner hated curry. tee-hee!
Such a pretty spice! I don't use much curry- hardly any at all- but I do know how aromatic spices can be on any dish. Nice shot!!

Star anise is pretty special and really makes a spice dish. Good to see it here. I agree with the fish smell - I do mine outside on the barbecue. Love all Indian food and when we go to Auckland later in the month - we will eat at "Little India"!

So either you give up cooking curry or find yourself a new partner. I hear some of those internet dating sights are very good.

this is such a fantastic shot. love what you had to say about the fish and curry; have to agree with partner - do not care for curry, either. would do the bbq thing, though, to get the smell out of your house. just be sure you oil the grates just before putting the fillets on or they will stick. i have been reading about tilapia because it is what is commonly used in aquaponics and i find this to be a fascinating subject considering we have so much hunger in the world today.

i appreciate the white background - gives the appearance of snow and makes the anise show up beautifully ~

This is so pretty! Wow! I don't like curry much either. And with my diet I was just mentioning on your cupcake post, it would nice if I liked curry because most of the gluten/dairy free meals in frozen section or envelopes/boxes that can be bought ready made (for work lunches) are Indian food/curry. Ah well. So you don't eat meat now?
