spotted this on our way home from the icefest uptown this morning. the little girl at the door and the mother at the top of the steps were urging the boy carrying the red cello case to hurry up. they must have come from either a trip or a cello practice. but the boy won't have any of it; he walked at his own pace notwithstanding the extreme cold. in this shot, the mother was telling him to smile as "the lady's taking your picture". he must be tired and cranky as he didn't even look up, still unsmiling.

we've had a few discussions about selective colouring. ribbet.com is my choice of program when it comes to post processing, including selective colouring. there are of course other programs online like ipiccy.com, befunky.com, picmonkey.com, pixlr.com and the list goes on. picmonkey of course is free to ace members of this website.
not really a fan but there are photographs that are perfect for this kind of processing. ann le fevre @olivetreeann had done some demo postings on selective colouring and she posted the links here (scroll down to the bottom of the screen): http://365project.org/summerfield/365-still/2014-02-21
i chose to do this shot in SC because the boy's jacket is also red and i wanted to highlight the case.
that's two of the primary colours. wonder if the blue will also present itself to me before the month ends? if not, i may just have to look for it!
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are greatly appreciated. not really making a headway with my commenting, but i promise i'd get your albums eventually.
I like the shot but especially like the expression of the person on the stair. The three people in this picture add an 'story element' to the photograph. Well done!!
Thank you for all the great information on selective coloring....have been wanting to do this, but could not figure out what to use. Later masks on PS also would work, but that is not a particularly user friendly software. You did a great job with this one, and with the yellow SC...looking forward to the blue one.
Would you really want to "smile for the lady with the camera" if you were lugging around an instrument that was the same size as you? And what boy CHOOSES to play cello. You know his mom made him take cello lessons because she didn't want to hear hours of him practicing the trumpet! lol Great shot for selective coloring! I definitely see blue in your future- and maybe the secondary colors too.
