una versión bastarda de "vista nocturna" por xavier miserachs

a bastardized version of xavier miserachs' "vista nocturna del port de barcelona" (night view of the barcelona port).

for the artist challenge, the artist being xavier miserachs, a photographer from catalonia, an autonomous community in spain. his work is reminiscent of neorealism and is representative of the years of spanish economic recovery in the 50's.

this shot is quite handy as this view from my boss' office has graced the pages of 365 quite a few times. this, of course, is part of the toronto port/harbour. i was going to wish for the lake to get frozen again but then i realized i'm hating the winter already. in fact, this morning there was just a few blocks of ice on the lake but it snowed during the day, not enough to create chaos on the ground, but enough to have made the lake look like this. and at 6 o'clock, with the sun not wanting to set yet, i had to rely on a bit of processing to make this look a tad like it is night.

shot in black and white and slightly processed in ribbet using silver screen, for the night-ish effect, on which i failed, hence the 'bastardized' term.

thank you, folks, for your kind visits and comments; they are greatly appreciated.

I have a very dear friend who lives in Catalonia now! I don't know if I'll be out where I can photograph a shot like this - but I'll have to check out the artist anyway! Good shot and it meets the challenge by more than a tad!

@olivetreeann - you should check it out, ann. http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/21784/artist-challenge-xavier-miserachs
he has some shots that you can of course emulate, like church walls or windows, if you have access to a spiral staircase. and with your kick-ass processing skills, you should be set! thank you, ann.

I was going to say that this looks like an old photograph but thats exactly what you have succeeded in producing! Silver Screen really works but only with the right photograph!

I almost thought, it was a shot from some 80's film about a nuclear power station disaster!! Well done @summerfield ;)

Great work @summerfield. I like your interpretation of Miserach's work. You've used dark and light areas on framing and postprocessing very well.

Thank you for your contribution :)
