this is the statue that was near the church. my research on it reveals it is actually installed in the entrance of an upmarket condominium behind the church. this sculpture, along with that of a boy clad similarly, and behind this statue on the wall of the adjacent building, is the "front profile of a simple home...outlined in black steel straps" with the shadow of the man in the hallow frame. the sculpture is called "linear order" and the artist, George Boileau interprets it as "life across generations - the boy as yet has not made his impression on the world, whereas the man has done so as indicated by his shadow". i must admit i didn't see the statue of the boy but there was work being done in the entryway of the building and there were yellow tapes around the area so i couldn't really get a head on shot of the statue unless i stand on the steps of the rectory but i would need a tripod and tripods aren't allowed on the steps. whew! that was some running sentence, wasn't it?
so i promised myself i shall go there when the weather is a little bit decent to get a better shot of the whole set of sculptures, or get a good close up of this to better show the texture of the statue/sculpture.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
I don't think you are going to get a better shot of this statue than this! The snow looks like a cap on hishead and a cape on his shoulders! Fabulous textures! At first I thought it was a real person in B&W and wondered why he had so much snow on him! oh yeah! ........... FAV
I like the snow on there too- it just makes him look so sad though! My guess is that you could get away with the tripod on the steps as long as the church wasn't open for people to go in and out to pray? Or maybe I'm reading the layout incorrectly. Anyway- who wants to battle snow covered steps with a tripod? Warm weather reshoot sounds good to me!
Being snow clad, this seems quite poignant! It's a wonderful photo, but having told us about the entire display, I look forward to seeing it after the thaw!
The world on his shoulders! I see that droop of the form that comes with old age. Good to be informed about it and see the snow additions - couldn't be better!
Powerful sculpture....love the expression on his face, and it would be great to see this is as a grouping in better weather and circumstances. As far as he is concerned, though, this is a wonderful capture.....really looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders (and, a yarmulke on his head, even though I think that would be set further back!!).
