the entry way to the Boldt Castle

day 2 of our photographic road trip found us exploring the Hearts Island, part of the 'thousand islands' on the new york side. It is where the Boldt Castle is located.

George Boldt, millionaire proprietor of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, set out to build a full size rhineland castle on the Heart Island; it was to be a grandiose display of his love for his wife, Louise. However, before the castle was finished his wife died and George abandoned all his plans on the castle and was said to have never returned to the island.

for more interesting information, here's the link to Boldt Castle's official website. the history is quite fascinating, as fascinating as the place itself.
