peace, man! by summerfield

peace, man!

this is my friend from high school, edelyn. she was amazed that i recognized her right away when i saw her. save for a few wrinkles here and there, she looks the same way, weighs probably the same, and still has the same smile as when we were in high school.

in 1970 after graduation, we all went our separate ways, went to college, took jobs, she and the third of our group, rosaida, got married. by the early 1980's the three of us re-connected. she had 3 children by then, a stormy marriage, a messy separation that involved her and the husband stealing the children every chance they both got. when her mother got sick, her husband took the opportunity to haul away all the children and she didn't see them again for a long time. she eventually got married again after her mother died and her children sought her out and found her.

now all the children are grown up. that small body gave birth to a total of seven children from the two marriages, the first one having been annulled. she now has five grandchildren and her son is in the process of petitioning for her to come to the united states.

we spent half the time at the high school. then had lunch and got caught up with what had happened to our lives in between. we joked around and told stories, reminisced our 'bad behaviours' and all the things high schoolers indulged in. we look forward to reuniting with rosaida when she makes it to the u.s. and visiting canada with me. she looks forward to meeting my bill.

what i told the director at the high school: high school is the most important phase of our formative years. it is when we make our first real life decisions as to who our friends would be, how we determine those decisions, you devise your measuring sticks about your later life choices and decisions. all you did then is a rehearsal towards the more important things in life. you never forget high school. it is the best years of our young life.

we are glad we have found each other again. it would be nice when we are complete again.
Wish I weighed the same as I did in junior high !!!!! Funny how time just seems to disappear when connected with old friends .

Wonderful to hear you are connecting with old friends. I look forward to meeting her. Like Leslie, I also wish I was close to the same weight as I was in high school.

Interesting that what everyone seems to be taking away from the story is that she weighs the same! Sounds like you all had a fabulous time! This is a terrific portrait of her!
