i had an appointment at noon with my naturopath doctor. despite pigging out during the holidays, my weight is now down to 126 lbs. there's virtually no fat in my body and my muscles have built up. i can feel the weight loss from the tights i was wearing today which kept slipping off. 😂 every part of me, too, jiggles. but i lamented to her that while i can see my body was losing weight, my damned calves are still as wide as the highway. her goal for me is to get to 128 lbs and let it stay there; mine is to go down to 125 lbs so i could make room for a bit more food when i want to.
i was not able to go for my usual walk this morning despite the grounds being perfect for walking, as one of the lawyers at the office pleaded for me to log on to attend to his bills, today being our year-end deadline. so after my appointment, i went to walk down to the ireland park near the island airport. i wanted to have an uptodate photo for the 52 frames challenge for week 2; the challenge is to show where we are from.
there are four other statues in that little parkette which depicted the suffering of those who fled ireland during the great potato famine. however, three shots and my hands were already numb from the cold. it was -12 and near the water, which was just a couple of yards from where i stood to take this photo, it felt like it was sub-zero. i was afraid my eyeballs would freeze, too!
this is also my entry for week 2 of the peter forsgard 52 assignments challenge, the challenge is 'wide angle'. i thought i had set my lens to 14 but it turned out my fingers were so numbed i didn't actually move the lens properly. dagnabits!
I like the wide view better than the long view. Love how in both shots his hand looks like he's holding that building spire up. Glad it's not quite that cold here. I haven't weighed that little since before I had kids, so 40 years. Congrats on the weight loss I can only wish
Well, you surely did compose in a great way! I like how the statue holds that needle building.
Good for you for reaching your health goals! I am so glad when I hear of determined people like yourself. I really hope you are feeling well. That is the most important thing.
As others have already written, terrific composition with the statue looking like he's holding the tower and the juxtaposition of wealth and starvation.
thank you all for your comments. the comments about the juxtaposition of starvation and wealth are quite interesting and i appreciate that. the park was created because when the irish immigrants came to canada, they landed at rees's wharf around this area. like all cities near a body of water, its waterfront becomes prime real estate for commercial, recreational and residential purposes. this park was created not only as a memorial to those irish ancestors, but also as a counterpoint to a similar one in dublin, ireland which is called 'the famine memorial', its figures representing the immigrants who left ireland, being dubbed 'the departure' while this one in toronto is referred to as 'the arrival'.
Interesting subject here and a really fantastic choice of composition
Good to hear your appointment went well.
I love the way you made the statue hold the tower! Well done!
